Winter

My biggest goal this year (besides not eating candy) is to enjoy the winter in New England. If you know me, you know I hate cold. I don't mind the snow....I just hate it when it's cold through mid may. But, pretend I didn't even write that because my strategy this year is to be super positive about the winter so that it doesn't get me down in the dumps like it usually does. I have to say it's kind of working......and it might help that this winter has been particularly beautiful....lots of snow storms...most of them on the weekends where we can hang out as a family and feel all snowed in. I like that part of winter. And you can see from last weeks entry....we've been graced with a few pretty spectacularly warm beach days.

Anyway. It snowed a lot right before MLK day and since Jeff had the day off we went up to Newburyport to sled with the Timothy's. I love going up there. I love Eva and her kids. (For those of you who don't know, Eva is a kind of adopted sister to me....she's from Bulgaria....she came and lived with our family during college and we've been close ever since.) She is one of the best moms I know. And I have never met anyone as excited about life and the beauty of the world. You can't be around her and not be grateful for how wonderful (her favorite word) the world is.
I love this picture. Look at all that love. Wonderful.
Eva is also an AMAZING photographer. Check out her stuff here.

Hazel and Charlie loved sledding. Charlie particularly. He could NOT get enough. He wanted more and faster and crazier. He was going down sans sled, on his tummy, backwards, you name it. He had no fear and somehow didn't complain of the cold even though his little cheeks looked like little cherries.
Jeff was hurling this guy down the hill.

Jeff took a great little run too. Love that guy.

So, here's to snow. I hope we get some more of it soon. We're left with just icy mountains of blackened crud.....it's really not so beautiful.....oh, yeah....I forgot, I love winter.

  1. What a great goal Sayd. I need to adopt it. Because I think our winter might even be a little longer than yours! Those sledding pictures with the cherry cheeks are so cute!

  2. I saw this post at Shawni's last week and then almost forgot to send a comment. What fabulous (my favorite word) pictures. LOVED seeing all that love all the way around! What a lot of fun that one little piece of blue plastic can provide! Grandma J LOVED sleigh riding more than almost anything except music. Hope she sees this!
