bat computer. online.

We’re having a BOY.  I know, I couldn’t have asked for a more balance family.  I would have been thrilled with a girl (you can never have too many sisters) or a boy.  Jeff professed not to care either way.  Hazel said she just was excited to have a cute little baby, didn’t matter if it was a boy or girl.  But Charlie?  Charlie told me that if it was a girl he would, under no circumstances, play with it.  He said he’d protect it (do you like it how he used “it”?) but never play with it.

I decided to find out the gender because, frankly, I don’t know how the transition could have gone smoothly for Charlie if I brought home a pink little bundle and I wanted him to be prepared.

Since Jeff couldn’t make the appointment due to scheduling stuff at work, I got a babysitter for Emmeline and Charlie (couldn’t imagine having a nice experience with those two running a muck unsupervised) and Hazel and I went off on a little date.  She was a delight to have there, and the ultrasound tech was so awesome, helping her to understand everything she was seeing.  Hazel took the whole thing very seriously with so much excitement (truthfully, she was more fun to have there than Jeff).

I coached Hazel all the way home on techniques to keep our news a secret….but using the right pronoun is a little too much to ask of that little girl and Jeff guessed after about 3 seconds of Hazel explaining the ultrasound pictures to him.

We told Charlie in the morning and he BEAMED.

Later that day as Charlie and I walked to pick up Hazel from school Charlie said, “Mom, I knew Heavenly Father was going to send me a baby brother.”

I was impressed with his confidence and surety. Something in the way he said it made me think maybe he had been in tune with the heavens.  Maybe there was really no need to have found out via ultrasound…. he had already found peace and knew he would have a baby brother.

I said, “Wow, Charlie that’s amazing.  How did you know?”

“My bat computer told me.”

I knew that annoying talking bat computer he got for Christmas last year would somehow come in handy.
