This is a guest post totally swiped from my sister Charity’s lovely blog. I think that’s totally illegal, but I’m doing it anyway. I’m having a super hard time finding time to post about our jam packed life and I want so much for my kids to have a record here of our family’s adventures.
We spent 3 hours one day during vacation looking through the blog from when everyone was little (when I used to post regularly). We all loved walking through our past life, when it was covered in little little kids and diapers and chaos. Now we’re wading through a different kind of chaos that is every bit as beautiful and hard and full. In the new year I really hope to get better at capturing it. Partly because my memory is so bad, but mostly capturing it, ironically, makes me live it more fully in the moment. It helps me make sense of it and see the wonder of it. So here’s to more blogging in 2015.
And with that, a post totally copied and pasted from Charity. Thanks for so perfectly capturing our fun few new years days with you here Char! We love you and the boy. So happy to call you ours.

somehow i’d forgotten a little how perfectly charming and wonderful boston is, despite the weather. i truly love that city, especially dressed up for christmastime!
we decided it was way too cold to be downtown for new years eve, so we had a super fancy dinner at saydi and jeff’s, followed by a dance party, games and martinelli toasts and banging pots and pans at midnight.
^^ jeff even got out his tux! ^^
^^ and saydi made the most delicious beef tenderloin ^^
^^ a screenshot from a video of our dance party, which was pretty epic ^^
on new years day, we went to wellesley, my alma mater (and saydi’s too!). everything was closed, so we couldn’t really go inside any of those beautiful buildings, but i looooved showing the campus i called home to the boy.
^^ my first year dorm room is inside that bay window! ^^
^^ this photo was taken by a six year old :) ^^
^^ our last stop was the greenhouses. i did some studying on that bench in the tropical room on really cold days! ^^
^^ on the way home from wellesley we stopped in the north end to get some canolis at mike’s pastry! i love the super narrow, feel-so-well-worn streets of the north end. ^^
the boy attended a conference that started on the 2nd, so i stayed downtown in a hotel with him and then met saydi in the morning for a run along the charles river. it was spectacular! after, we ate breakfast at our favourite place, the paramount at the base of beacon hill.
that afternoon, we went ice skating on the frog pond in boston common. i’ve skated on three amazing, cool rinks in the past two weeks: union square, central park, and the frog pond! (i think the last time i skated before that was like 2009!) it was totally fun helping hazel, charlie and emmeline learn how to skate. they loved it even though it was cold and quite crowded! i enjoyed watching the scenes in and around the rink change as the sky moved towards night.
on the 3rd, we met our almost-sister eva and her daughter skye for a walk at a wildlife sanctuary half way between her house and saydi’s. i love love love eva. she is sunshine packed into a human.
and then, our trip was over and a new year was here! i have enjoyed thinking back on all the miracles of 2014 and am looking forward to lots of adventures, challenges and joy in 2015.
I have been a long time reader of your blog, nice to see you posting! I'm wondering if you would consider doing an update on your oldest daughter's virtual school experience. We live in MA too and we are considering that option. If you would be at all willing to chat about what you think of the experience that would be awesome! my name is Allison and my e-mail is akeaney@gmail.com
