New England in the Fall

I am in love with New England right now. (Someone remind me in March to come and read this post.)

Seriously, the leaves, the unreal colors, the crisp air. I love Autumn....but there is absolutely, hands down nothing better than Autumn in Boston. It has the most indescribable charm.....tree lined streets, mums and pumpkins on all the old porches, leaves littered everywhere covering the earth in a blanket of gold and sun yellow and burnt red. It literally takes my breath away as we turn corners and spot one flaming tree after another perfectly situated in front of white New England churches with red doors or rock walls or old barns. I love it.
And my kids are LOVING it too this year. We've spent a few afternoons it the huge old cemetery right around the corner from our house. We bring a picnic and eat on a blanket of leaves. We jump in them and take a lot of pictures. We all soak it in and find the most incredible leaves to bring home and press.

Leaves

by elsie brady

How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.

At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow.
