a real letter

My dad sent me a real letter in the mail recently. A real, hand written letter. It was long, on stationary, not a card and it was in his hard to read handwriting. It was packed with love for me and reminders of the good he sees in me. Boy did it make me feel good. It helped me to remember a part of me that he knows that I've pretty much forgotten about lately.

As I read it, it struck me that the way he feels about me has greatly shaped who I am. My dad has this talent of seeing the best in people and then treating them like they are their best. I want to be able to do that for my kids.....and lately I've not been doing too well.

So, a few nights ago before bed I wrote Hazel a little note on a post it pad and put it by her bed. It was short, just told her that I love her and that I'm thankful for all the help she gives me with Emmeline. She GLOWED as I read it to her in the morning. She took it and later that day I found it taped to the wall right by her little art desk. I was kind of amazed at how much a little short post-it love note (that she can't even read) meant to her.

So thanks dad, for sending me a good old fashioned letter and for teaching me the importance of seeing the best in people and telling them about it. You rock dad.
