charlie and peter

IMG_9210From the minute we found out we were having a boy Charlie has been falling in love with the idea of a little brother.  Luckily, this little ball of newborness has not disappointed him in the slightest.  He is as pleased as punch about his little brother and really wants to do little else but ride his bike and “play” with his baby brother.  He didn’t even want to go to school for the first few days, afraid he might miss something.   I’m so pleased that he doesn’t share the same sentiment as Jeff about newborns (Jeff thinks they’re pretty uninteresting until they hit about 3 months and start interacting).  Charlie couldn’t care less that Peter doesn’t seem aware of his affection.  He just lays down close to him and caresses his little head and talks to him in a high, reassuring voice….saying things like, “Oh, Don’t worry little brother, Charlie is here.”  And “you are the sweetest little brother, I love you.”  His face fills with delight and wonder as he watches him stretch, look around, sleep, spit up, burp, toot….all of it thrills Charlie.  He is especially enchanted when Peter does things that I tell Charlie he did as a baby (like the funny sound he makes when he’s done sneezing), or if Peter is wearing something that Charlie wore as a baby.  IMG_9317

The best part of all of this is that Charlie has no idea what he’s in for.  Peter is just going to get more and more fun for Charlie until he turns 2 and wants to destroy everything of Charlie’s.  I guess we’ll just appreciate all this brotherly affection while it lasts.  IMG_9319

Here’s a card Charlie made for Peter when we brought him home.  You have to read it from the bottom up:

“Dear Baby Brother.  I hope you will have fun with me.”  (Picture of Legos and Charlie and peter playing with a car)

  2. I love these pictures of Charlie. They melt my heart. There is a sweetness in them that you never see in his "tough guy" poses. He really loves his little brother.
Can't wait to see you all.
    Grandma.
